PathMaps™

Analyse Page-to-Page Paths

Easily analyse individual visitor page-to-page paths through your site by individual, referring domain name, search engine queries, or specific action taken.

We all face the same issues -- where did the visitor that just bought our products or services come from, and what path did they take through the site leading to the sale? Or even questions as easy as how did the clients who bought find our site? What keywords are actually resulting in sales (even pay per click ), and which are not converting?

Or, as important, what paths were taken by individuals that did not lead to the sale, and were the visitors ever on the correct path? Are my pay per click visitors visiting multiple pages, or simply "bouncing off" our initial landing page? What organic Search Engine Optimisation keywords are resulting in sales?

After a fair amount of dissatisfaction with the mounds of data in log analysers that did not effectively allow us to identify actions (such as sales), and then backtrack to the beginning of the user visit, we have decided to offer a tool that follows onto Search Engine Optimisation and addresses this tracking need. The issues really do require a powerful tool, and we know that many people are boggled by statistics, but it is and always will be a data analysis exercise.

To that end we are offering version 1 of the PathMaps™ tools. And for the time being we are effectively giving them away at operating cost.

It is probably easier to double your conversion rate than to double your visitors, but you should do BOTH!

First, detect, aggregate, & organise visitor habits...

The PathMaps™ tool will track the visitor through your site and construct a large data trail of where the visitors have entered, moved through, and left your site. We have designed it for drill-down reporting, so we can pinpoint the pages visited by each user. The accuracy of server logs is not sufficient for this purpose for many reasons, not the least of which is that it is common for multiple users to dynamically connect to random IP addresses and for them to not be easily identified as individuals. Additionally, form data from a post is not generally available, so URLs can be incomplete. We solved that problem without user intervention.

PathMaps™ is...

PathMaps™ is a method for obtaining web visitor path maps as they visit various pages in your site. These maps facilitate the identification and trending of habits, thus helping to identify where there are bottlenecks to sales conversion within your site.

Access is provided on a quarterly basis (subscriptions are 3 months). The standard fee is $30 per quarter. It is worth a lot more, but we wanted to offer a service that people would not feel bad about using (after all you are running on our servers and we do provide bandwidth, support, maintenance, etc.). We also want everyone to have this great tool. It maintains the most recent 48 days of data (or the last 10,800 page visits if smaller) and you have access to additional reports. Contact us for additional capacity.

There is a desktop interface that allows hourly or on demand graphical analysis of Unique Visitor Sessions, Pages Visited, PPC Sessions, PPC Pages Visited (some keep taking your money!), Search Engine Sessions, and Search Engine Pages Visited. It sits on your system tray and is always ready for your quick glance.

It is our near-term intent to develop additional reports and to eventually offer telephone analysis of client data on a monthly basis for an appropriate fee. Until then please correspond by email and we will assist as best we can.

You can purchase quarterly subscription at our Secure Registration page. Remember, it comes with a 15 day, no questions asked, refund in the event you do not wish to keep using the product for any reason!

Installation

STEP 1 - No files are installed onto your server. We do not use SSI scripts. However, you will need to install a javascript line at the bottom of pages you wish to track:

<SCRIPT language="javascript" src="//www.bruceclay.com.au/pathmaps.js"></script>
<SCRIPT language="javascript">PMAudit()</script>

or

<SCRIPT language="javascript" src="//www.bruceclay.com.au/pathmaps.js"></script>
<SCRIPT language="javascript">PMAudit('source=test')</script>

Using the ('source=test') allows you to add "action codes" to specific pages, such as 'action=sale' or 'action=subscription' or anything else you might want to track. BE SURE TO INCLUDE THEM WITHIN SINGLE QUOTES. ('action=sale&amount=123.45') will work just fine.

STEP 2 - You will need a login to the Subscribers Area of our various tools. This login is in our Clients Area. You can purchase your subscription at our Secure Registration page.
